Community Health Investment Fund
L.A. Care’s Community Health Investment Fund (CHIF) was established in 2000 by our Board of Governors to support projects that strengthen community health and fill gaps in health coverage for low-income individuals in Los Angeles County.
Since then, L.A. Care has supported over 400 Los Angeles County based safety net projects to increase services, improve community and public health, and expand health insurance coverage to underserved communities.
L.A. Care has created a number of special initiatives that have responded to a specific community need in Los Angeles County, including:
- Health Information Technology
- Oral Health
- Improved Access to Health for Seniors and People with Disabilities
- Robert E. Tranquada Safety Net Awards (infrastructure improvement for community clinics)
Through these efforts, L.A. Care has greatly improved access and quality of care for hundreds of thousands of underserved individuals in Los Angeles County.
Additionally, L.A. Care has supported key public safety net providers such as the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LAC DHS) and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH). L.A. Care has also made sizable contributions to the Children’s Health Initiative of Greater Los Angeles (CHI).
On an occasional basis, L.A. Care has funded ad hoc proposals initiated by the applicant.
Through L.A. Care’s CHIF, we were a major funder of Northeast Valley Health Corporation’s recent opening of an Adult Wellness Center on the clinic’s San Fernando Health Center campus.
