Provider Recruitment Program

Primary Care Psychiatrists are now eligible for Provider Recruitment Program Grants and the Provider Loan Repayment Program

L.A. Care's Elevating the Safety Net is a long-term initiative to recruit high-quality primary care providers into the Los Angeles County safety net. Each recruit could care for up to 2,000 new patients per year.

The Elevating the Safety Net Provider Recruitment Program (PRP) is one part of this initiative. The program provides grant funds that will allow contracted entities within L.A. Care's Medi-Cal network to better compete with practices outside of the safety net.

L.A. Care is pleased to announce that the ninth grantmaking cycle for the Elevating the Safety Net Provider Recruitment Program is open from January 26, 2021 through February 25, 2021.

The goal of this Request for Applications (RFA) is to attract new providers to L.A. Care's Medi-Cal network, and to increase health care access to low-income populations in Los Angeles County.  The PRP grant program is designed to recruit five types of disciplines practicing in primary care settings, including: pediatricians, OB/GYNs, family and internal medicine physicians, and psychiatrists.

This RFA is open to contracted entities with L.A. Care. Applicants may request up to $125,000 per provider. Funds can be used for salary and benefits subsidies, sign-on bonuses, and/or relocation costs. At least 50% of the funds must be used for salary and benefits subsidies.

Contracted providers may request funds for up to two providers per funding cycle but no more than three providers across the three funding cycles for L.A. Care’s FY 2020-21, which starts October 1, 2020 and ends September 30, 2021.

For the ninth application cycle, electronic and hard copy applications are due no later than Thursday, February 25, 2021 at or before 2:00 p.m. Award announcements for the ninth cycle will be made by late April 2021.
