Substance Abuse Services: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment

November-December 2022

patientWhen a member comes in for a routine visit, the need for alcohol or substance use related issues may be identified. Knowing how to screen and where to refer is an important step in linking members to appropriate resources and treatment options.

During a scheduled visit, you can use the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to identify members with current substance use disorders or those at risk for developing this type of disorder, and you can provide early interventions and treatment recommendations. One substance use screening is called the AUDIT and is available on our Behavioral Health resources webpage.

Members in need for alcohol or substance use related treatment can be referred to Beacon Health Options at 877.344.2858 to be further assessed and presented with different treatment options available to help treat their alcohol or substance use related issues.
