L.A. Care’s Chief Health Equity Officer to Join National Forum to Discuss Health Equity Policy Priorities and Issues

The Chief Health Equity Officer for L.A. Care Health Plan, Alex Li, MD, will join the 2024 Medicare, Medicaid, Duals & Commercial Markets Forum, a three-day conference hosted by AHIP, a national trade association whose members provide health care coverage for residents across the country. The conference, which starts today in Baltimore, Maryland, is bringing together more than 800 attendees and influencers to delve into policy priorities, regulatory updates, operational issues, and innovations in health care coverage. Li’s panel tomorrow is titled Health Equity Investment, Innovation and Scale; Moving from Vision to Impact.

Dr. Li will discuss L.A. Care’s vision, plan (see Health Equity and Disparities Mitigation Plan) and commitment to advancing health equity. Among the topics the panel will delve into are the strategies that have demonstrated success in driving positive change. Panelists will share examples where plans like L.A. Care are partnering with others and serving as a catalyst to influence health equity policies and investments in the communities they serve. The aim is encourage other health plans to invest some of their profits to further support under-resourced communities so that everyone has an equitable opportunity to thrive.

Dr. Li will also share his thoughts on why health equity work must not be done in isolation or in an ad hoc manner. He believes progress is more likely if health equity work is done in collaboration with community partners and public agencies.
