Federal and State Governments Grant Permission to Use Brokers
LOS ANGELES — L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly-operated health plan in the country, has been granted permission by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) and the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to begin using brokers to enroll members into our Cal MediConnect (CMC) product.
This will provide much-needed support in bringing more dual-eligible individuals into Cal MediConnect, a demonstration that began in 2014 which was designed to streamline delivery of comprehensive, coordinated services and benefits for people who are eligible for both Medi-Cal and Medicare.
Cal MediConnect is truly the only integrated plan for dual-eligible individuals, ending what has been a fragmented, confusing and inefficient system. We are hoping that brokers will help us double the number of L.A. Care CMC members within one year.

CEO, L.A. Care
L.A. Care CMC product has grown from 12,000 members in 2016 to 16,500 members at the end of 2018. This is extraordinary growth, considering L.A. Care was not using brokers. It shows that members recognized the value of the CMC plan. Now, L.A. Care will be in a better position to tout the benefits of CMC.
