L.A. Care Health Plan Helps Kids Get Ready for School

Health Fairs Featuring Free Health Screenings, Backpacks, and Raffles

Nearly a third of children in Los Angeles County live in poverty. Their parents often struggle to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Back-to-school supplies fall way down on the list of priorities, even though such supplies play a critical role in educational success.

L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly-operated health plan in the country, is once again determined to help these children succeed. For the fourth year in a row, L.A. Care is holding Back to School Health Fairs at four of its Family Resource Centers (FRC). The fairs will include health screenings and a giveaway of backpacks filled with school supplies.

Teachers will tell you that students who have basic school supplies feel greater self-esteem and classroom performance improves. We want to do everything we can to help the kids in our community get ahead. That includes helping to keep them and their parents healthy.
