L.A. Care’s CEO Speaks at HealthLeader’s Summit on Open Enrollment Just as the Covered California Annual Enrollment Period Begins

HealthLeaders Media is hosting Payer Now, an online summit for health plan professionals to discuss and timely industry topics. John Baackes, the CEO of L.A. Care Health Plan, has been invited to share his insights on a panel titled Open Enrollment 2023: A Mid-Season Check-In. The summit is tomorrow, one day after the start of the 2023 open enrollment period for Covered California, the state’s exchange in the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

Baackes will discuss a wide variety of topics related to this open enrollment period, including L.A. Care’s efforts to keep health coverage affordable. L.A. Care has the most affordable rates across all metal levels in Los Angeles County. He will explain that as a public option, a publicly operated plan competing against commercial plans, L.A. Care is has no shareholders and is able to meet its goal of keeping rates affordable.

It is also the open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage plans. Prabhdeep Singh, the Chief Growth Officer for Clover Health, a Medicare Advantage plan based in Memphis, Tennessee, will join Baackes on the panel. Singh will share his insights on the current state of Medicare spending and staying competitive with more startup plans jumping into the Medicare Advantage market.
