If you have a low income...

Medi-Cal

L.A. Care offers a Medi-Cal plan built with our community in mind. Medi-Cal is a public health care program for those with limited income. This free or low-cost public health insurance program pays for medical services for eligible California residents.

Who qualifies for Medi-Cal?

  • People who meet eligibility criteria including income guidelines; and
  • People under the age of 26 or over 50, regardless of their immigration status

As of January 1, 2024, people ages 26-49 years are now eligible for Medi-Cal, regardless of immigration status.

What does Medi-Cal cost?

Depending on income, some members may have no monthly costs or co-payments. Other members may have a monthly share-of-cost.

How to apply for Medi-Cal

Online: Apply for Medi-Cal online at CoveredCA.com

Mail: Print the Single Streamlined Application at Covered California and submit via mail to your local county office.

Phone: Call your local county social services office.

In Person: Visit one of the L.A. Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan Community Resource Centers, or find your nearest county office to apply for Medi-Cal in person.

If you live in Los Angeles County and need financial assistance...

L.A. Care Covered

If you need financial assistance, but don't qualify for Medi-Cal, you can choose L.A. Care Covered. L.A. Care has the most affordable premiums in Los Angeles County for the Silver, Gold and Platinum metal levels.

You would enroll through Covered California. Call L.A. Care at 1-855-222-4239 and we'll be happy to help you.

  • Individuals who live in Los Angeles County

How Much Does it Cost?

  • Monthly premiums vary by plan type
  • Out of pocket expenses vary by plan type
  • No cost preventive care
  • Other services at no cost include nurse advice line, health classes, exercise classes, and disease management programs
  • Financial assistance available depending on income

L.A. Care Medicare Plus (HMO D-SNP)

You may be interested in our L.A. Care Medicare Plus (HMO D-SNP) program. L.A. Care Medicare Plus (HMO D-SNP) is here to deliver coordinated and seamless healthcare that supports members health and independence.

L.A. Care Medicare Plus offers complete care that coordinates your Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits, helps with access to resources like housing and food, and offers benefits and services like care managers and 24/7 customer service at no cost.

  • Individuals who get both Medi-Cal and Medicare (Dual Eligible Members)

  • $0 for doctor visits and hospital care

If you are a homecare worker...

PASC-SEIU

You may be interested in the Homecare Workers Health Care Plan, also known as the PASC-SEIU Plan.

Who's it for?

  • Homecare workers who meet the Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) eligibility requirements for health coverage

How Much Does It Cost?

  • $1 per month
  • No co-pays for some care
