August 2018

Please be aware that the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has a health advisory out regarding detection of an influenza variant virus infection at a state fair.

CDPH advises that two cases of influenza A (H1N2) variant virus infection have been laboratory-confirmed in persons who were exposed to pigs at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles. This occurred during the period of July 17 to 29, and influenza A (H1N2) was also detected in a pig at the fair.

CDPH is requesting that health care providers ask patients with influenza-like illness this summer whether they attended a state or county fair within 7 days of illness onset.
