Nurse Advice Line

Mental Health

If you need to be referred to a mental health provider you can contact Carelon Behavioral Health at 1.877.344.2858 (for TTY dial 711 or 1.800.735.2929). Visit the Carelon web page for information about the “baby blues” and postpartum depression. 
 

Weight Management Program

The Weight Management program addresses various lifestyle components that can be modified to reach someone’s weight goal. This six- month program focuses on developing healthy habits to get to a healthy weight in a healthy manner. If you are interested, please contact the Health Education department at 1.855.856.6943 (TTY 711).

Home Visitation Programs

Free home visitation programs are available for L.A. County residents. Home visiting programs give parents tips and tools to make it easier for them to have a happy and healthy family.

The Welcome Baby program helps parents to learn about their new role as a mom or dad, insurance coverage, nutrition, breastfeeding, family violence, maternal depression, or improving home safety. The program is offered in selected hospitals around L.A. County. Please visit First 5 LA to see a list of participating hospitals and to connect with them.

Love, Dad is a home visitation program for fathers and their young children. They focus on building a father-child attachment, reducing paternal stress, and support co-parenting. Visit Love, Dad for more info. (Community Partners)
 

Resources for Families

LA Best Babies Network offers resources for persons who are pregnant or for those who have a baby or toddler.  

March of Dimes offers resources and materials for your pregnancy journey. They offer reading materials about topics such as planning for a baby, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, parenthood, miscarriage, loss, and grief. Please visit the March of Dimes website for more info. 

My Birth Matters is a website to help pregnant people of all backgrounds learn more about their birthing options. 

Black Infants & Families Los Angeles offer support groups for black fathers/parents/partners.

L.A. County Department of Public Health - African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Doula Program provides access to perinatal support while addressing the disproportionately high rates of Black/African American infant and maternal deaths countywide. To check eligibility and for more information, please visit the Black Infants and Families website.

Mental Health & Grief and Loss

It can be a difficult time during and after pregnancy or when experiencing a devastating loss. The following resources can help with mental health and loss and grief: 

The National Maternal Health Hotline is a 24/7 free and confidential hotline for pregnant and new parents. You can call or text to speak to a counselor at 1.833.852.6262 (TTY users dial 711 and then 1.833.852.6262). 

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential support. You can text or call 988. 

L.A. County Grief Support Resources provides resources and support groups near you.
