As an adult (18 years or older), you may not want to go to your PCP for certain sensitive or private care.
You can choose any doctor or clinic for these types of care:
- Family planning and birth control including sterilization for adults 21 and older
- Pregnancy testing and counseling
- HIV/AIDS prevention and testing
- Sexually transmitted infections prevention, testing and treatment
- Sexual assault care
- Outpatient abortion services
For sensitive care, the doctor or clinic does not have to be in the L.A. Care network. You can choose to go to any Medi-Cal provider for these services without a referral or pre-approval (prior authorization) from L.A. Care.
If you got care not listed here as sensitive care from an out-of-network provider, you might have to pay for it.

L.A. Care will not disclose medical information related to sensitive services to any other member without written authorization from you, the member receiving care.
