L.A. Care’s Family Resource Center in Boyle Heights Joins Food Pantry Effort at LAC+USC Medical Center

L.A. Care FRC in Boyle Heights Joins Food Pantry at LAC+USC

L.A. Care Health Plan is proud to announce that its Family Resource Center in Boyle Heights is joining LAC+USC Medical Center, its auxiliary nonprofit service organization CARES, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank for their regular Mobile Food Pantry. The food pantry, which takes place two to three times per month, is especially important now because so many people have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No one should have to choose between feeding his or her family and paying rent.

Each food pantry helps to feed 800 to 1,000 families, including families who currently have a loved one in the hospital. Each family receives approximately 25-40 pounds of food – both fresh produce and dry goods. During each food pantry, L.A. Care will be distributing an additional care package that will include items like first aid kits, water bottles and activities for children who are home from school.

The first of the pantries that will include L.A. Care is today, Thursday, May 21. LAC+USC Medical Center patient families will be served between 10 am and noon. Community members will be served between noon and 1 pm.

Distribution will take place at the LAC+USC Medical Center Outpatient Department, Building B, at 2010 Zonal Avenue in Los Angeles.

L.A. Care will also participate in the food pantries on May 27, June 18, and June 24.

This is the  third food pantry effort for L.A. Care. Last month, the health plan held a drive-through food pantry at its Family Resource Center in Palmdale, and it is supporting Sowing Seeds for Life in its ongoing food pantries at the Fairplex in Pomona.

During this time, it is important that we do as much as we can to ensure that families who are hurting financially are able to have nutritious meals that will help them stay healthy while staying at home.
