Board of Governors

L.A. Care Health Plan is an independent local public agency created by the State of California to provide health coverage to low-income Los Angeles County residents. With more than 2.2 million members, we are the nation's largest publicly operated health plan.

L.A. Care is unique. Committed to the promotion of accessible, affordable and high quality health care, L.A. Care is governed by a 13-member Board of Governors representing specific stakeholder groups.

These groups include including consumer members, physicians, federally qualified health centers, children's health care providers, local hospitals and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. This ensures that the broad spectrum of those who make up and participate in the L.A. County safety net guide this organization's direction and investments.

Under this Board of Governors, L.A. Care continues to grow and improve its services to both providers and members. Their leadership has led to a number of achievements, including:

Adopting a strategic vision to better serve member needs with specific milestones for the next three years.

 

L.A. Care Direct Network, A Direct Partnership for All of L.A.

Launching the Antelope Valley direct network to enhance member experience and build an even more efficient provider network in an area where more than 100,000 of our underserved members live. 

 

Member ID Cards

Issuing plastic member identification cards to ensure quick access to necessary medical information and phone numbers in response to member feedback.

 

Largest Health Plan

Being named the largest health plan in Los Angeles County, based on membership, by the Los Angeles Business Journal, based on membership (May 2016).

 

NCQA

Receiving National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation, as well as the NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction award for its Medi-Cal and L.A. Care Covered product lines.
