L.A. Care is participating on the Senior Advisory Board for More LA Smiles — a Dental Transformation Initiative at UCLA — and they are offering free on-site and virtual training to promote practice-based oral health quality improvement for 1,500 medical providers.

This provider education opportunity is called SmileConnect CME®, which is designed to help primary medical practices integrate oral health services into well-child visits for children ages 0 to 6.

It's directed to pediatricians, family medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical staff interested in expanding their knowledge of pediatric oral health and preventive oral health services, and who serve children on Medi-Cal.

The unique 1-hour training give clinicians the opportunity to earn Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits at no charge. Overall, the program is offering 30-50 CME credits and 20-25 MOC Part IV credits.

Participants will be able to:

  • incorporate oral health assessments and fluoride varnish applications into clinical work flow;
  • successfully refer children in need of a dental home to an accepting dentist;
  • code and bill for preventive oral health services;
  • monitor progress implementing preventive oral health services; and
  • become Smiles for Life certified
