Federal and State Governments Sign Duals Demonstration Pilot MOU

April 2013

On March 27, 2013, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and California Department of Health Care Services DHCS announced the completion of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Duals Demonstration Pilot. This important initiative, which is part of California's Coordinated Care Initiative, will now be called Cal MediConnect.

Through Cal MediConnect, eligible beneficiaries will have the opportunity to combine all their Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits into one health plan-and receive more coordinated and accountable care.

For nearly two years, L.A. Care has been working to design the delivery system for this new program.  We have also been meeting with the advocates, care takers, current members and other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive and culturally sensitive program.

L.A. Care has a proven track record of providing high quality, cost-effective health care in Los Angeles County, with over 15 years of expertise in serving Medi-Cal members, seniors and people with disabiliities.

We believe that Cal MediConnect will allow us to improve continuity of care and health outcomes, and maximize the ability of Medi-Medis to remain in their homes and in their community.  The most vulnerable members of our community deserve the quality of care and simplified delivery system that L.A. Care can provide.
