Participate in the More LA Smiles Program

In an effort to improve oral health for Los Angeles County children ages 0-20 with Medi-Cal and Denti-Cal, UCLA's More LA Smiles, a Dental Transformation Initiative, invites medical providers to participate in clinical trainings and quality improvement (QI) opportunities. L.A. Care is a member of the initiative's Senior Advisory Board.

Funded by the state of California, the trainings and QI opportunities are led by UCLA faculty in collaboration with various program partners to better equip providers to provide risk-based prevention and disease management services.

The innovative and nationally recognized opportunities include:

Primary Care Practice Quality Improvement

Primary care practices integrate oral health preventative services into well-child visits for children ages 0-6. This includes a one-hour training for providers and clinical staff followed by six months of technical assistance and implementation support. Eligible providers may earn 30-50 CME and 20-25 MOC Part IV credits.

Oral Health Improvement Collaborative

The 10-month collaborative supports medical practices to integrate and coordinate oral health care with dental providers, increase performance on quality measures, and expand network opportunities with national experts and other medical and dental professionals across L.A. County. Eligible providers may earn 25+ CME and 20-25 MOC Part IV credits.

UCLA Faculty-Led Clinical Trainings

Overview Training:  The one-hour training explains the Medi-Cal 2020 Dental Transformation Initiative and provides contemporary understanding of dental caries and systems-based approaches to improving children’s oral health.  Participating providers may earn one CME credit.

Advanced Training: Includes a three-hour in-depth instruction on performing caries risk assessments, applying fluoride varnish, utilizing self-management goals and contemporary approaches for prevention and management of dental caries as a chronic infectious disease. Participating providers may earn three CME credits.
