L.A. Care’s Director of Communications Nominated for Los Angeles Business Journal Mentor of the Year

Misty de Lamare

L.A. Care Health Plan is proud to announce that its Director of Communications, Misty de Lamare, has been nominated for a Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) 2022 Women’s Leadership Award. de Lamare, who joined L.A. Care in 2006 and has held a variety of positions in the health plan, is nominated in the Mentor of the Year category. In her current position, de Lamare is responsible for the health plan’s internal and external communications, including corporate messaging, community relations, social media, media relations, sponsorships, digital properties, provider communications, and video production.

de Lamare is an inaugural member of L.A. Care’s Women in Leadership Employee Resource Group, which launched in 2018. From the start, de Lamare has played an active role in providing opportunities for its members to become inspired and grow within the organization. She has encouraged and enabled members to attend professional conferences and has acted as a mentor helping L.A. Care staffers reach their full potential in their work.

But her mentoring doesn’t stop at L.A. Care. de Lamare mentors a volunteer team of 25 as the nursery director at her local church. She is currently creating a training curriculum that will support the development of nursery team leaders, which will allow volunteers to gain leadership skills that with further their personal and professional development.

The awards ceremony is being held in conjunction with an LABJ Women’s Leadership Symposium, in which de Lamare will participate on a panel titled Live Your Best Life; Today’s Work Life Balance. de Lamare will tell the audience that “self-care isn’t selfish.” She believes it’s important for one to take care of themselves in order to be productive at work and in life. She will offer tips on incorporating self-care into daily life and setting boundaries to help ensure work-life balance. Panelists will also discuss the challenges and opportunities created by the COVID-19 pandemic, structuring schedules, and rebuilding your brand.
