L.A. Care Hosts a Facebook Live Q&A to Clear Up COVID-19 Testing Confusion

LOS ANGELES – The combination of a novel coronavirus and politics has resulted in mixed messages and general confusion about the COVID-19 pandemic for many. L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly operated health plan in the country, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Departments of Health Services (DHS) and Public Health (DPH), and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC), are working to clear up the confusion about testing, safety precautions, and more.

As part of that partnership, L.A. Care is holding a Facebook Live Takeover Q&A. Actor and singer Juan Pablo di Pace, of Fuller House, Mama Mía, and Dancing with the Stars fame, will take over L.A. Care’s Facebook account today. He will interview Dr. Erika Flores Uribe, an Emergency Medicine Physician who is DHS lead on COVID-19 Testing Access Equity Efforts.

I have been especially concerned by the disproportionate number of cases and deaths in communities of color,” said di Pace. “Dr. Flores Uribe has the expertise to help communicate exactly what these communities need to know to lower their risk, and how to get tested.”

We have heard some leaders say that anyone who wants a test can get a test, but there are still gaps in accessing COVID-19 testing for some communities.

Limited access to accurate health information and misinformation continue to disproportionately impact communities of color. Many of my patients have fears of getting tested because of financial or immigration concerns,” said Dr. Flores Uribe. “Our communities will have a better understanding of when, where, how and why to get tested for COVID-19 as well as how to stay safe after this Q&A.”

Today’s Facebook Live Takeover is going to offer easy to understand guidance.

Together, di Pace and Dr. Flores Uribe will help to dispel myths and clear up any confusion about testing, and safety precautions,” said James Kyle, MD, L.A. Care Director of Quality Improvement. “L.A. Care, along with our partners, knows that we must use a variety of pathways to reach all who need this potentially life-saving information. We hope an educational and entertaining Facebook Live will help keep members and the community healthy.”
