L.A. Care Health Plan Names Dr. Sameer Amin as its Next Chief Medical Officer

LOS ANGELES – L.A. Care Health Plan today announced that Sameer Amin, MD, will assume the role of the health plan’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on December 5, 2022. He will succeed Richard Seidman, MD, MPH, who is retiring after holding the CMO position for nearly six years.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Amin will oversee all areas of clinical operations, including care management, quality improvement, pharmacy, health information technology, social services, and behavioral health, among others. He will lead L.A. Care’s efforts to ensure the appropriate delivery of quality health care services to its more than 2.7 million members.

Dr. Amin is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Oscar Health. Prior to joining Oscar, Dr. Amin was the Chief Medical Officer of CareMore/Aspire Health’s West Region. Before that, he held a number of other positions at the Anthem subsidiary, including National Director of Specialty Medicine. He also served multiple roles at Healthcare Partners, including Medical Director of Specialty Medicine.

Sameer received his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 2006. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard University. He followed the residency with a fellowship in cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and another fellowship in interventional cardiology at UCLA Health and further training in interventional cardiology at UCLA Health.
