L.A. Care Earns National Multicultural Health Care Distinction for a Fifth Time

Los Angeles – The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has awarded L.A. Care Health Plan a Distinction in Multicultural Health Care. The award is given out every two years, and this is the fifth time L.A. Care, the largest publicly operated plan in the country, has received the honor for its Medi-Cal, Cal MediConnect and L.A. Care Covered product lines.

The NCQA’s Distinction in Multicultural Health Care recognizes organizations that provide culturally and linguistically sensitive services, while working to reduce health care disparities.

L.A. Care is committed to advancing health equity for our members and their communities,” said John Baackes, L.A. Care CEO. “And, our staff prioritizes treating members with respect and cultural competence. I’m proud that the work has once again resulted in this national recognition.

The NCQA evaluated L.A. Care’s ability to collect race, ethnicity and language data, to provide language assistance to its members, and its responsiveness and sensitivity to its members’ racial, cultural and language differences.

L.A. Care was among seven California health plans to receive the NCQA’s Distinction in Multicultural Health Care award for their various product lines.
