L.A. Care CEO John Baackes Elected to AHIP Board of Directors

Los Angeles — America’s Health Insurance Plans – the national trade association representing the health insurance community – recently elected L.A. Care Health Plan CEO John Baackes to its Board of Directors. AHIP is comprised of health care organizations that provide health and supplemental benefits through employer-sponsored coverage, the individual insurance market, and public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

“I am honored to join an esteemed group of health care leaders, especially at a time when we are suddenly faced with significant unknowns in the American health care system,” said Baackes. “Entrusted with the care for nearly two million low-income residents in Los Angeles County, I am deeply committed to being the voice of our most vulnerable members to ensure their health needs are met.”

AHIP’s Board of Directors determines and approves the strategic framework that guides the association’s advocacy work. Board-approved strategic priorities include regulatory, legislative, and other advocacy goals that pertain to key issues affecting the health insurance community and the customers it serves.

In addition to Baackes, the following new members were also elected to serve on the AHIP Board:

  • Thomas A. Croswell, CLU, President and CEO of Tufts Health Plan
  • J.D. Hickey, M.D., CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee
  • Pamela Morris, President and CEO of CareSource
  • Michael F. Neidorff, Chairman, President and CEO of Centene Corp.

The AHIP Board will be led by Joseph R. Swedish, Chairman, President and CEO of Anthem Inc., who was elected to serve as Chair in 2017.
