L.A. Care Celebrates Inclusion by Sponsoring the Compton Pride Festival

June is LGBTQ Pride Month, and as a health plan that is committed to inclusion, L.A. Care is proud to sponsor the Compton Pride Festival. The health plan sponsored the first Compton Pride Festival in 2019, which was the first ever pride event held in South Los Angeles, an area with limited resources for the LGBTQ community.

The 2020 festival had to be canceled due to the pandemic, and this year it will be a hybrid event. Live musical guests and speakers will perform for a streaming audience. Among the speakers will be Auleria Eakins, L.A. Care’s Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement. Eakins will speak about L.A. Care’s recent grants to increase COVID-19 vaccinations in LGBTQ communities and communities of color. She will also speak about L.A. Care’s Transgender Health Program.

This year’s hybrid festival will include a drive-through food pantry.

The Food Pantry is scheduled for:

June 5, 2021
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Star View Community Services
1303 Walnut Park Way, Compton

The Compton Pride Festival will be streamed on June 5, from 12:00 – 6:00 pm on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The event is hosted by Star View Children & Family Services, an organization that provides behavioral healthcare and other social services throughout Los Angeles County.

Sponsorship of the Compton Pride Festival aligns with L.A. Care’s commitment to health equity. While those in the LGBTQ community gained health care protections from the Affordable Care Act, many still face challenges and barriers to accessing needed health services, which results in poor health outcomes. L.A. Care’s commitment to health equity means the health plan is working to ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible.
