L.A. Care Announces 2015 Medicare Stars Rating and Full Participation in Cal MediConnect

L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan, is proud to announce the results of the annual Medicare Star Ratings, which indicate that L.A. Care’s Medicare Part D Star Rating has improved for 2015. With this new rating, L.A. Care will begin accepting passive enrollment into the Cal MediConnect program starting January 2015.

Medicare Star ratings are determined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and will be made available by CMS in October. L.A. Care will be issuing a more detailed formal public announcement once the ratings are officially released.

Cal MediConnect offers members a coordinated care model within a single health plan and will help to foster better health outcomes and improved quality of life.  In light of Cal MediConnect, L.A. Care has made the decision to close our Medicare D-SNP on December 31, 2014. This allows us to fully invest in making the Cal MediConnect program a success. The vast majority of our current Medicare D-SNP members are eligible to transition to our L.A. Care Cal MediConnect Plan on January 1, 2015. Approximately 77% will be automatically enrolled by the state, and another 18% will be able to choose to enroll in our Cal MediConnect plan. Those remaining few (less than 500) who are not eligible for Cal MediConnect will be able to continue with L.A. Care for their Medi-Cal coverage, while enrolling in another Medicare plan or joining Medicare Fee-for Service.

L.A. Care is proud of the quality of care we provide to our members, and we remain committed to actively implementing strategies that continually enhance and improve our overall quality and customer service. With more than 1.5 million members, L.A. Care provides high quality health care to approximately one out of every nine Los Angeles County residents. For more information about L.A.
