L.A. Care is building a provider network to serve Medi-Medi members.
July 2012

L.A. Care Health Plan is building a provider network throughout Los Angeles County in preparation for California’s Duals Demonstration Pilot, which will transition some fee-for-service beneficiaries who are eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal (Dual Eligibles) to managed care.

The three-year pilot is tentatively set to begin on June 1, 2013.  There are 374,000 Dual Eligibles in Los Angeles County, which is the largest concentration of Dual Eligibles in the United States.  L.A. Care will provide comprehensive health, medical, behavioral and social services for these high-risk members in an effort to better coordinate care and keep patients with chronic and complex conditions healthier at home and out of medical institutions.

L.A. Care will contract with plans and providers that have the capacity and programs to meet the needs of this population. Throughout the pilot, L.A. Care will support providers with a dedicated service system, resources and educational materials.
