Improving Medication Adherence: New Mail Order Pharmacy Vendor

June 2018

As of May 1, Kroger is the new mail order pharmacy vendor for L.A. Care. Patients are able to register with Postal Prescription Services (PPS) — the subsidiary of The Kroger Co. that is providing this service — to set up their mail order account.

As the prescriber, you can call in, mail, fax and even e-prescribe orders to PPS. When writing the prescription, please note that Kroger requires complete directions for use (e.g. "use as directed" is not an appropriate direction for use).

Our goal with Kroger Mail Order Pharmacy is to improve medication adherence among L.A. Care members. Having medications conveniently mailed via standard shipping directly to their doorstep at no additional cost to their usual pharmacy co-pay supports this initiative. Prescriptions can be expected to arrive within seven to 10 days of an order.

A mail order pharmacy also allows members to get up to a 90-day supply of maintenance medications for chronic conditions, such as medications for hypertension, hyperlipidemia or diabetes.

L.A. Care members must register and create an account to use this service. If your patients have questions about registering for this service, they can contact the Kroger customer service line at 1-800-552-6694. The customer service line is available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Patients can also learn more about the mail order pharmacy at L.A. Care’s Pharmacy Services section.
