L.A. Care Supports the Community

It takes more than health care coverage to build healthy families and communities. L.A. Care Health Plan has a deeper understanding of our community’s needs than national health plans, due in large part to the fact that we live and work in the community we serve. And, because we are locally controlled, we ensure that revenues are reinvested to continue to provide high quality care to Los Angeles County residents, not being sent to stockholders outside of California.

Community Investments – Top 1 percent of funders in Los Angeles County

  • L.A. Care’s Board of Governors established the Community Health Investment Fund (CHIF) program in 2000 to improve community and public health, expand health care insurance coverage and strengthen the health care safety net

  • Each year, we provide grant funding to community clinics to expand access to medical care for the low income population
  • Our total community investments of more than $150 million through the CHIF, sponsorships and other community programs, places L.A. Care in the top 1 percent of funders of the health care safety net in Los Angeles County
