L.A. Care Health Plan Welcomes New Members, Continues Year-Round ACA Education, Enrollment

LOS ANGELES — L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan, welcomes more than 185,000 new members to its Medi-Cal and L.A. Care Covered™ health plans, thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). L.A. Care Covered™ is its Qualified Health Plan chosen by Covered California, the state’s Marketplace.

Although open enrollment for L.A. Care Covered™ ends today, enrollment in Medi-Cal is year-round.

“Over the past six months, we have seen thousands of people in Los Angeles embrace Obamacare, and we are proud to have educated and enrolled many into health coverage programs for the first time,” said L.A. Care Chief Executive Officer Howard A. Kahn. “We look forward to serving those who have signed up, and strongly encourage those who didn’t, to do so this November.”

L.A. Care’s commitment to national health care reform remains steadfast – it will continue educating residents through community events and town halls, partnering with community-based organizations, federally qualified health centers and key consumer groups to help spread the word.

“True to our mission, we are proud to continue increasing access to high quality, affordable health care options. This will always remain our priority,” said Kahn. “We will continue daily efforts to enroll new members in Medi-Cal, prepare others for the next open enrollment period, and tend to the ongoing needs of our more than 1.3 million members.”
