L.A. Care Health Plan Raises Its Minimum Wage to $15 Per Hour

Los Angeles — L.A. Care Health Plan is announcing that effective May 4, 2015, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan is increasing its minimum wage to $15 per hour. The new base wage is in alignment with what is considered an acceptable wage by a diverse group of economists, social scientists and elected officials. Being a leader in the health care arena, L.A. Care recognizes the important contributions of employees at all levels – and anticipates it will have a positive impact on retention of staff and recruitment efforts.

“As one of the larger employers in Downtown Los Angeles, I believe our compensation structure must be aligned with our mission,” said L.A. Care CEO John Baackes. “This increase in minimum wage will contribute to our employees’ wellbeing and to a more vibrant Los Angeles economy.”

To complement the new base wage, L.A. Care will also make benefits, including health insurance, available to all new hires sooner.
