L.A. Care Health Plan CEO Receives Inaugural Safety Net Hero Award

LOS ANGELES — Howard A. Kahn, chief executive officer of L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation's largest publicly operated health plan with nearly 1.4 million members, yesterday was named Safety Net Hero by St. John's Well Child and Family Center during its annual Moveable Feast.

The first-ever award, created in his honor, recognizes an outstanding leader who increases access to health care for low-income, underserved residents of Los Angeles County.

"Howard's visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to the underserved has made L.A. Care a champion for safety net providers and the communities that they serve," said Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County President and CEO Louise McCarthy. "It is an honor to partner with L.A. Care as we work toward our common mission to provide high quality, affordable health care for those who need it the most."

L.A. Care's commitment to supporting the health care safety net is further strengthened through community partnerships, including that of St. John's.

"For five decades, St. John's has been providing high quality health care and supportive services to the residents of South Los Angeles," explained Kahn. "Without safety net clinics like St. John's leading the way, the work that we do would not be possible. We look forward to many years of continued partnership."
