Nation’s largest publicly operated health plan recognized for exemplary care
LOS ANGELES — L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan serving more than 1.4 million members, is proud to announce that it has once again received health plan accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This achievement, which will be recognized for three years, validates that beyond being the largest entity of its kind in the country, L.A. Care is also among the best.
In addition to holding this accreditation since 2010, L.A. Care was one of only 11 health plans in the country to receive the NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction (MHC) in 2013. MHC recognizes health care organizations that provide excellent care to diverse and minority populations.

Care’s mission, to provide access to quality health care for Los Angeles County's vulnerable and low income communities and residents, is exemplified through this renewal accreditation.”
The NCQA Health Plan Accreditation process evaluates how well a health plan manages quality throughout every part of its delivery system – physicians, hospitals, affiliated providers, and administrative services – to continuously improve health care for its members. The accreditation measures five areas of performance:
- Staying Healthy – Helping members maintain good health and avoid illness
- Getting Better – Helping members recover from illness
- Living with Illness – Helping members manage chronic conditions
- Access and Service – Providing sufficient access to needed care and good customer service
- Qualified Providers – Efforts to ensure providers are fully qualified and members are satisfied with them
