L.A. Care Celebrates National Health Center Week

For National Health Center Week, L.A. Care is Celebrating Health Centers: Home of America’s Health Care Heroes — individuals whose work and passion to improve health outcomes in communities have made a lasting positive impact in the lives of millions.

In honor of America’s Health Care Heroes, L.A. Care is sponsoring a variety of community clinic events being held in recognition of the weeklong celebration throughout Los Angeles County.

Non-profit community health centers or community clinics—also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)—serve as the community “safety net” by providing access to affordable, high-quality healthcare to vulnerable populations, regardless of ability to pay. In L.A. County alone, FQHCs serve more than 1.5 million patients each year.

Elevating Healthcare through Partnerships
Since 2010, L.A. Care’s Community Health Investment Fund (CHIF) has awarded FQHCs and non-profit community clinics more than $16.5 million in direct grant funding to support:
  • Expansion of clinical spaces
  • New and updated electronic health records systems
  • Chronic disease management like asthma and diabetes
  • Oral health expansion of services
  • Adaptive equipment such as exam tables, hearing devices, and wheelchair accessible scale
