It’s Not Too Early to Protect Against the Coming Flu Season

L.A. Care holds flu shot clinics at five Family Resource Centers

L.A. Care to hold five flu shot clinics and vaccination classes

LOS ANGELES – Last year, the U.S. saw the longest flu season in a decade. Twenty-one miserable weeks resulted in 647,000 hospitalizations and more than 61,000 deaths.

Seasonal flu vaccines are the only way to protect against numbers like that, and yet surveys have shown that fewer than half of Americans get a flu shot each year. L.A. Care wants to ensure that the numbers are better for Angelenos this flu season.

L.A. Care is holding flu shot clinics at five of its six Family Resource Centers.

“It takes up to two weeks to build immunity after you get a flu shot, so you don’t want to wait until the flu has reached your community,” said Richard Seidman, MD, MPH, L.A. Care Chief Medical Officer. “Everyone six months or older should get a flu shot unless otherwise directed by their doctor.”

This year, L.A. Care is also offering vaccination classes hoping to dispel myths that some might have heard about vaccine safety. Here are the details for the flu shot clinics and the vaccination classes.
