Health Policy and Advocacy Expert Joins Nation’s Largest Public Health Plan
LOS ANGELES – L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest public health plan, announced today that Louise McCarthy, president and CEO of the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC), has joined the Board of Governors, serving until late 2014.
L.A. Care’s Board is a 13-member stakeholder board, which includes representatives of community clinics, hospitals, federally qualified health centers, doctors, members, advocates, and the County of Los Angeles. McCarthy represents the free and community clinics throughout L.A. County.
“I am committed to working with my fellow board members to further L.A. Care’s vision of a healthy community in which all have access to the health care they need,” says McCarthy, who brings extensive policy and advocacy expertise to L.A. Care’s Board. “This includes supporting and strengthening L.A.’s non-profit community clinics and health centers, which need support now more than ever to make the promise of health care reform a reality for L.A.’s underserved.”
In 2007, McCarthy joined CCALAC as vice president of Governmental Affairs and two years later became interim co-CEO. Prior to these roles, McCarthy was the assistant director of policy for the California Primary Care Association, where she worked on statewide legislative, regulatory and administrative issues impacting California’s community clinics and health centers.
McCarthy is a board and committee member of the California Primary Care Association and the California Family Health Council. She is also an active member of L.A. Health Action, Children’s Health Initiative of Greater Los Angeles, and L.A. School Health Centers Coalition. She is chair of the steering and policy committees of the California Oral Health Access Council.
McCarthy holds a Masters in Public Policy from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and is a martial arts instructor at the Brasil Brasil Cultural Center. McCarthy is a resident of Mar Vista.
