25th Anniversary Report: Community Resource Centers

In September 2019, L.A. Care and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan invested $146 million in a community resource center expansion, with a commitment to jointly operate 14 locations. The centers offer free exercise, nutrition, and health education classes to members and the community, along with social needs support such as food pantries.

The main goals of the CRCs are to build active, healthy, informed communities, and to serve as a safe, fun, and inclusive community resource.

Since then, the CRCs have served thousands of Angelenos, navigating unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Response efforts include:

  • Hosted or supported numerous drive-through food banks across Los Angeles County
  • Hosted COVID-19 vaccine clinics
  • Launched free, on-demand exercise and healthy cooking video programming to help members and the community stay healthy while staying safe at home

With three locations on the horizon, the 11 current locations include:

  • Boyle Heights
  • East L.A.
  • El Monte
  • Inglewood
  • Lynwood
  • Norwalk
  • Metro L.A.
  • Pacoima
  • Palmdale
  • Pomona
  • Wilmington
